Simo Häyhä At the Salpa Line with members of the Battletours group. One of Finland's greatest heroes it was our honor to meet with Mr. Häyhä twice at the Salpa Line. You can read more about the man and the meetings here http://mosinnagant.net/finland/simohayha.asp BTW - Please do not post any anti Russian comments as I will delete them. I am a historian and have studied Finnish, Estonian, and Russian-Soviet military history. I will not allow people to use my video to insult the Russian Federation or its people.

Sep 2, 2008 - Respect to you, eastern brother :) It was so wrong what the russian troops had to suffer in WW2. Honestly, I think they were much stronger. Respect to fallen brothers of Russia and Finland.

Oct 14, 2008 - And what is amazing is that he used a iron sight rather than telescopic sight because with the telescopic one he would have had to raise his head higher and because there was a visibility risks, (a telescopic sight's glass can fog up easily) sunlight glare in telescopic sight lense could have revealed his position! He was a truly spectacular individual....huge respect for him. What he did for Finland's freedom is priceless. RIP.

Oct 20, 2008 - Siinä on mies, joka on tappanut eniten ihmisiä kuin kukaan muu. Noin 700 varmaa tappoa talvisodassa. Se on noin Rykmentin verran ukkoa. Kyllä se yksi mies voi vaan paljon tehdä. Kunnia hänelle.

DKM817 Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - no...he's a sniper, not a close combat fighter.
somedude1245 Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - i saw a reportage about this man, didn't he lose his lower jaw from a exploding bullet?
maximilianwang61 Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - the reason of how nearly got him killed was that he joined his last assault of attacking enemies but the combat scenario was totally a chaos because usually finnish soldiers were brave to infiltrate russians' campsites for a very short while so no one could tell the bullet hit him might have come from no where.
maximilianwang61 Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - there was nothing that surgeons could do but kept pressing the artery above his left ear to reduce the bleeding. Hayha was in comma for 8 days before the battle of Kollaa ended. what DKM817 said that Hayha was simply a sniper which may not be correct because Hayha also joined several times of ambushes and assaults with finnish troops which was against russian troops.
maximilianwang61 Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - not an explosive bullet; according to the record the bullet his jaw on the right and kept penetrating through his oral with pitching and yawing, then tore his left cheek out with facial bones and some of his teeth. under that circumstance, everyone assummed he was dead but finallt realized he was still breathing so other of his comrades lifted him up with a blanket and sent him back to the field hospital.
