Nov 23, 2008 - Actually, the ones wearing those red bandanas were usually the miners themselves, which was common and practical at the time time. The "rednecks" or miners, eventually formed unions to make better wages after many of them had been killed mining and building railroads. At the time, being considered a "redneck" meant you were a hard worker. Quite a different connotation nowadays. Shame really.
