"Sacred Trust" is a beautiful, sensitive prevention video for all audiences, especially American Indian and Alaska Native nations. Sacred Trust adresses Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE) among American Indian and Alaska Native women and promotes an alcohol-free lifestyle during pregnancy. Individuals from various nations are shown giving no-use messages: parents and foster parents, a tribal elder, a health educator, and a Native American man. The film promotes zero tolerance for alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and drugs for all pregnant women. This film describes the effects of exposure to alcohol and drugs on the fetus during pregnancy. This video which was produced by USDA, Food and Consumer Service for use in the WIC program addresses Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE). Individuals of various Nations present messages that encourage women to say "NO" to alcohol. These messages are presented as a family of Plains Indians prepares throughout the day to attend a powwow. During the video, the image of Chief Sitting Bull appears conveying a message of spiritual value. While the individuals in the video represent a few Nations, the message is of vital importance to all Native American and Alaska Natives. Public service announcement public domain video produced for US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Supplemental Food Program Divisions (SFPD) and the Food and Consumer Services (FCS) -- produced by the Video, Teleconference and Radio Center, Office of Communications, USDA.

Jul 17, 2007 - As a baby develops, their brain produces a chemical, very similar to THC, in order to stimulate brain development. There are no recorded links to birth defects, from Marijuana use, in fact my own mother used Marijuana occasionally while she was pregnant with me. This is NOT saying people should use ANY drugs while pregnant... but just like with every subject, Zero Tolerance is Never the right way to look at things.

NikoKun Says:

Jul 17, 2007 - And I will stand by you and say Alcohol and tobacco should never be used while pregnant... There are even plenty of legal drugs that should never be used while pregnant, and even certain foods. But that is all based on scientific evidence, and I merely wanted to add that the evidence is not there, when it comes to Marijuana.

rosaryfilms Says:

Jul 18, 2007 - NikoKun, Fetal Marijuana Syndrome is listed in my video, "Marijuana Culture: The Negative Impact Upon Women - Part Two".

rosaryfilms Says:

Jul 18, 2007 - NikoKun, you are seriously wrong -- they is a great amount of evidence of the negative impact marijuana has on pregnancies. Fetal Marijuana Syndrome is listed in my video, "Marijuana Culture: The Negative Impact Upon Women - Part Two".

Jul 23, 2007 - Thank you for posting this. Regular and heavy drinking are very dangerous in the pregnancy. You should not become pregnant when you are an alcoholic. If you are and become pregnant it's important to wean off slowly as the detoxication symptoms are also dangerous...

rosaryfilms Says:

Jul 23, 2007 - Cranny71, thank you very much for your comments!

Oct 17, 2007 - I remember there are epidemic bouts of alcoholism on the reservations. It's also where I've seen soo many cases of FAS. My own cousins were like that, but they died soon after their 20th b-days, they were in a vegetative state. Alcohol ruins lives for people, it's not their faults.

rosaryfilms Says:

Oct 17, 2007 - kaoruneko16, I am sorry to hear about your cousins, but thank you very much for sharing your experiences with us -- I am sure that it will help others to avoid these problems.

Nov 11, 2007 - Awesome video. That was good to put mothers in this who drank during pregnancy and showing their pain and talking. You can only help someone as far as you have helped yourself.

Jun 20, 2008 - Alcoholism is a huge problem on reservations up here in alaska. Alot of the people on those reservations hate white people, and they get alot benefits from the government. But most don't have jobs since they do nothing but get drunk, so then they complain about having no money and no opportunity, and its really hard to feel bad for them.
