The film is the first of a trilogy by Antonioni; it is followed by La notte and L'eclisse.

Dec 9, 2008 - Just finished watching this today and I loved it! I'm in the middle of watching "La Notte" with "L' Eclisse" in the wings. That shot of Vitti turning her head while holding her knees (in the boat scene) with a puzzled look on her face has to be in a montage of 60's movies.
